What is TRP? Can the channel benefit by tampering with it ?
TRP stands for Television Rating Point
TRP is a way to know the popularity of any TV program and the number of audiences Advertisers learn from TRP how beneficial it would be to advertise in a show Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh on Thursday said that the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) is raising the television rating point (TRP) by tampering with India's devices. He also named several channels, including Republic. However, Republic TV claims that India FIR's name is not in the FIR. The question arises whether any channel can increase TRP in this way?
What is TRP ?
TRP stands for Television Rating Point. This is one way to know the popularity of any TV program and the number of audiences. How many people watched the show is known from TRP.
If the show has a high TRP, it means that people prefer that channel or that show. Advertisers learn from TRP how beneficial it would be to advertise in a show.

Simply put, what is the channel of socio-economic background and how long do people watch it? This can be in an hour, a day or a few weeks.

What is the significance of TRP for channels?
TRP determines which channel is being watched by how many people. Which shows are more popular? Based on this they prepare their promotional plan and give advertisement.
TRP needs to be good if more advertising is needed. This is why most of the channels give more importance to TRP. The more people see, the more they promote.

How is TRP calculated ?
BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) has installed the device in about 45,000 homes, called Bar-O-Meter or People Meter. This meter records the watermarks embedded in the show.
The BARC remote has a separate button for each member in each home. While watching the show, he has to press the button, which lets the BARC know which member of the family watched which show for how long?

Based on the same data, BARC states that the pattern of watching shows or programs among the 200 million TV viewing families is what 84 million viewers are watching and how long they prefer to watch.

These families have been divided into 12 categories in 2015 under the new Consumer Classification System (NCCS). It is based on the level of study of the main earning member in the family as well as the availability of electricity in the house to the car.
BARC is an industry body, jointly owned by advertisers, ad agencies and broadcasting companies. The Indian Society of Advertisers, the Indian Broadcasting Foundation and the Advertising Agency Association of India are its joint honors.

That means what the whole country is watching, the device on the TV of these 45 thousand families. The BARC keeps the device's information confidential, but has been accused of tampering with it before. The allegations of the Mumbai Police Commissioner are new allegations in this chain.
According to FICCI and Insert & Young, India's TV industry was worth Rs 78,700 crore last year. TRP has been the main criterion for advertisers to advertise in it as well.

How can TV channels influence TRP?
TV channels can influence TRP in 2 ways. First, if they find out where the Bar O Meter or People Meter is, they can motivate the families to watch their own channel directly through cash or gift. Secondly they ensure that viewers watch their channel first through cable operators or multi system operators.
