Prior permission of a district collector will now not be mandatory for a nonfarmer purchasing agricultural land to set up educational institutions like agricultural universities, animal husbandry universities, medical colleges and engineering colleges.

The state government has taken a historic decision on land ownership that a person can buy land even if he is not a farmer. An important decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Land purchased for the educational purposes must be reported to the Collector within one month. The state government has amended the ganot dhara. 

This was earlier delayed due to non-agricultural organizations or individuals having to seek the prior approval of the District Collector to purchase the land. Earlier, only agricultural account holders could buy agricultural land, but after the new amendment, anyone can now buy land for educational purposes.

An important decision to amend the provisions of the Ganot laws was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday. This important decision will result in wide opportunities for development in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry, education, health in the state. Not only this, but more industrial capital investments can also be attracted in the state.
According to the decision of the state cabinet, prior permission or approval of the district collector is not required to purchase agricultural land for agricultural universities, animal husbandry universities, medical colleges, engineering colleges or other educational purposes in the entire state. 

After purchasing such land, the project work can be started within the stipulated time by informing the District Collector within a month and obtaining the required certificates just like Bonafide Industrial Purpose.

In the past, non-agricultural organizations or individuals had to get approval from the District Collector for purchasing such land. This resulted in long delays in title clearance, inspections, etc.and delays in starting the project. That's when these problems came to an end.

In case of purchase of land for bona fide industrial purposes in the State but not for industrial purpose, the land may be sold for purposes other than industry as per the provisions of GDCR.
In case of such lands, merger of the company, joint venture, amalgamation or sale of land transferred to its own subsidiary, group company or associate company will not be considered. In these transactions, only 10% of the jantri price-premium can be transferred.
