The 7th Pay Commission met with stakeholders to hear their demands which included, among other things, the common pay for entry-level employees, rationalisation of the present grade pay structure, and a transparent pay structure.

The Pay Matrix has been a simple and easily comprehensible table which is also predictable and transparent. The stakeholders interacted with the 7th Pay Commission to place their demands which varied from common treatment of similar cadres, common pay for entry-level employees, enhancement in the frequency of the Modified Assured Career Progression, transparent pay structure and rationalisation of the current grade pay structure.

All of these features have been incorporated into the new pay matrix. The grade pay has been subsumed, the levels are now rationalised, employees can now check their pay level and determine their current status as well as their potential growth over the course of their career, and the whole world of pay levels has been presented in the rationalised matrix so that it can be easily understood through one simple chart. Simplified procedures have also been recommended for the calculation of pension.

7th Pay commission matrix update
There was good news for nearly 52 lakh central government employees last month Government of India announced that the central government servants (CGS) will be given full full Dearness Allowance (DA) benefit. Anurag Thakur, the Minister of State (MoS) for Finance said in an announcement in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. The MoS Finance said the DA benefit will be given from 1st July 2021.
